An underwater robot is being used by scientists to monitor the ocean off the coast of Spain. The £150,000 robotic glider is remotely controlled by scientists 900 miles away at the University of East Anglia and measures the condition of the water including its temperature, oxygen and salt content, cloudiness and current. The data are being sent back to the university via satellite and it is hoped that the findings will improve understanding of how changes in ocean circulation during strong winds affect biological production.
