A university-partnered scheme that helped to train women from traveller and Gypsy communities as health advocates has been shortlisted for an award. The Wellbeing for Travellers scheme, set up with the help of Bucks New University, is one of the regional finalists for the Health and Social Care Awards 2010, which will be announced in October. Margaret Greenfields, reader in social policy at Bucks New, told Times Higher Education earlier this year how she had to overcome physical and verbal abuse from people opposed to her working with travellers in order to complete the scheme.
