The first buildings in a £750 million campus extension have opened. The £200 million first phase of the development at the University of York includes new accommodation for the departments of computer science and theatre, film and television, as well as the schools of law and management. The 65-hectare expansion will eventually see student numbers rise by 50 per cent to 16,000. The new campus will also feature business and academic clusters in the creative and technological industries, and will house an extensive support infrastructure for start-up and early-stage businesses.
