The image was created by Alexander Wright, a postgraduate in the University of Leeds' Institute of Molecular Medicine. He was given the award at the university's postgraduate researcher conference in December.
Mr Wright said the image represented the potential for cancer diagnosis to be improved by the automated analysis of samples. "Recent advances in technology allow us to scan human tissue samples on glass slides at such a high resolution that each cell can be visually inspected on a standard computer screen," he said.
