Sir Ronald Oxburgh, rector of Imperial College and president of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, told in his presidential address of an elderly lady who asked him whether he was involved in the environment. "I was not quite sure how to answer but gave a guarded 'yes', he said. "At which point she turned on me and said 'Well in my opinion there is far too much of it'."
