So how much do academics really value awards and prizes? Recently overheard from one much garlanded professor, discussing the importance he placed on one particular item in his collection: "That's the one I'd keep if I was only allowed to keep one of my awards." An acceptable pause followed, until he added pensively: "Not that I can tell you where it is, mind you."
