Vice chancellors meeting in Sheffield last week indicated support for the current pattern of research funding, rejecting any move towards a demarcated group of research universities. They also supported retaining the present honours degree.
The CVCP view on undergraduate courses is that: "Three to five-year first-degree courses should remain the core of university work, albeit provided in more flexible ways. New, high-quality, shorter courses should be introduced where this is justified on educational grounds, but for no other reason."
