DESIRING PRACTICES. "Desiring Practices" is a series of free architecture and design exhibitions being held in London and highlighting the importance of gender roles in new practices in architecture.
From September 28 to October 20 there will be exhibits at Gallery One and the Sculpture Court at The Royal Institute of British Architects, 66 Portland Place, London W1. There is also a symposium with international speakers from various disciplines at the Jarvis Hall on October 18, 19 and 20. ANARCHY OR PEACE. A conference on the origins, parallels and consequences of the civil wars of the 1990s will focus upon contemporary developments and post- conflict reconstruction. "West Africa at War: Anarchy or Peace in Liberia and Sierra Leone?" will be held in the Department of Anthropology, University College, London WC1, on Saturday, October 21, 11am-5pm. The conference will explore the social, economic and political costs of conflict in the West African coastal states and the consequences for refugees and the environment.
