Michael Hollas describes a number of common "incorrect" English usages that cause him "continual irritation", such as the use of "phenomena" as a singular noun. It would be helpful to those of us whose English falls short of Hollas' own high standards if he could let us know to which point in the 1,500-year history of the language we should turn for guidance as to the correct use of English.
