关于 Butler University
This private university in Indianapolis, Indiana, was established in 1855 by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler on the principle that everyone, regardless of their race or gender, is entitled to a quality education.
Over the years more departments were added and Butler University became the first institution in the state of Indiana with a Department of English. Today there are over 65 major academic fields of study, as well as 18 master’s degree courses and a Doctor of Pharmacy program too.
The university’s 295-acre campus is located on the northwest side of Indianapolis and several university buildings have been designed by acclaimed architects, such as the Irwin Library, designed by the architect of the World Trade Centre Towers, Minoru Yamasaki. There are a number of halls of residence for the 4,600 students currently enrolled at Butler University.
International ties are a key part of the university and there are study abroad programs available in more than 70 countries, in institutions including Cardiff University, the University of Zurich, the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, among many others.
The Butler ArtsFest is a key date in the university calendar, presenting a showcase of dance, music, theatre, visual arts, talks and films for students and the public. Founders Week is another big celebration for Butler University, and in early February various events are staged to commemorate the university’s beginnings.
Some key figures in sports, culture, academia and politics have graduated from Butler University over the years, including Emmy award-winning orchestra conductor George Daugherty, author of internationally renowned play Chicago, and Major League Baseball player Dan Johnson.
