Founded in 1936, during the administration of President Lázaro Cárdenas and with the help of astronomer Luis Enrique Erro, former revolutionary Juan de Dios Bátiz Paredes and former education minister Narciso Bassols, the National Polytechnic Unviersity (IPN) was created to provide education to the most deprived social classes.
It is now one of the larges public universities in Mexico and among the top 20 universities in Latin America. It is also one of the world’s only vocational schools.
IPN’s main campus, named Unidad Profesional Adolfo López Mateos (or Zacatenco), is located north of Mexico City and spreads across 2.1km². There are also several research institutes and other facilities spread over 22 states.
Comprising 98 academic units, with 293 courses of study, 78 technical career programmes, 80 undergraduate and 135 postgraduate programmes.
It is highly selective in its admission policy and relies on entrance examinations and past academic records. Between 20-30 per cent of those who apply are accepted to study.
The institute operates Canal Once, the oldest public broadcast service in Latin America, which covers cultural, scientific, information and entertainment programming, foreign shows and classic, rare and independent films from all over the world.
Known for their impressive sports offering, students at IPN can play on any of the 26 varsity teams: for archery, American football, athletics, baseball, bowling, boxing, gymnastics, handball, judo, kendo, rowing, swimming, volleyball, wrestling and many more. There is a fierce rivalry between teams from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, especially with the football team, the ‘Pumas Dorados’ (the Golden Pumas).
Notable alumni include Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico (1994-2000).

Candidates for appointment at the Professor level are expected to have an established record of academic leadership in research and/or education at the international level. Appointees at the Associate Professor level should have an internationally recognised reputation for research excellence and a proven capacity to contribute to the Faculty’s research profile. Candidates at this level should already possess a strong portfolio of high-impact publications and a clear scholarly agenda of continuing distinction. Candidates for Assistant Professorships should have completed their doctorate by the time of appointment and either possess a strong record of quality publications or demonstrate clear potential to develop into a productive and impactful scholar. Clear evidence of a coherent research trajectory and commitment to producing high-quality outputs will be essential. The Faculty particularly welcomes applications in foundational common law subjects (especially private law subjects), artificial intelligence and law, banking and finance law, intellectual property law, and PRC law. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates in other areas may also be considered. The current starting base salary, payable over 12 months, is HK$80,825 per month (approximately US$10,350 / £7,800 per month) for Assistant Professors; HK$100,050 per month (approximately US$12,825 / £9,650 per month) for Associate Professors; and HK$126,370 per month (approximately US$16,200 / £12,190 per month) for Professors. In addition to the base salary, appointees are eligible for a monthly housing allowance and an end-of-contract gratuity, subject to prevailing terms and conditions. Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation.
