The Undergraduate Division is seeking teaching faculty in Data Engineering and Data Science to lead a course providing the practical foundation necessary for building robust data workflows essential for modern AI, with a specific focus on Generative AI systems. This role requires delivering expert instruction on all stages of the data lifecycle, including the collection, processing, storage, and analysis of large-scale data. Key topics include data acquisition, quality assurance, statistical profiling, data mining, and the design of scalable data pipelines, with particular attention paid to the rigorous data preparation and curation required for training large generative models (like LLMs). The Faculty particularly welcomes applications in foundational common law subjects (especially private law subjects), artificial intelligence and law, banking and finance law, intellectual property law, and PRC law. They should possess a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Conservation Biology, Environmental Policy, or a closely related field, and demonstrate a strong research focus in one or more of the following areas: marine protected areas, marine spatial planning, policy and management, fisheries, and/or ecosystem-based conservation. A proven track record of securing competitive research funding and publishing high-impact research of regional and global relevance is essential. Particular expertise and research experience in Southeast Asia, with a focus on China, are required. The appointee will be a key member of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) at the University, providing academic leadership by developing a world-class research programme, mentoring junior staff and students, and contributing to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He/She will also serve as a key academic representative of the Hong Kong and China Marine Protection Alliances – cross-sector coalitions focused on marine conservation and sustainable use of marine resources at both local and national levels. Both initiatives are funded by the Swire Trust to coordinate and amplify marine protection efforts. Exceptional candidates may also be nominated for the endowed professorship – Swire Professorship in Marine Conservation.
