IU International University of Applied Sciences is a private, state-recognised university of business and management in Germany. It was founded in the city of Bad Honnef but has now expanded to have campuses in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Dusseldorf, Bremen, Bad Honnef, Bad Reichenhall and Erfurt. It was founded in 1998 and brings together three forms of higher education under one organisation. These three branches are IU School of Business and Management, IU Dual Studies, and IU Distance Learning. The School of Business and Management offers bachelor's, master's, and MBAs in international management, marketing management, hospitality management, event management, aviation management, transport and logistics, and international business. IU Dual Studies allow students to complete a practice-oriented dual study programme. Courses are offered in healthcare, human resources, industry and logistics, marketing, real estate, tax and auditing and tourism. IU Distance Learning offers over 150 certificate programmes with flexible learning models. Exams can be taken at over 30 test centres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland or at 150 international testing centres. All courses are taught in English in order for students to learn important specialised vocabulary improve English language skills. Students are able to live and study with international students on campus. The university also provides internships or semesters abroad for students to be able to spend some time studying abroad. The university has partnerships with universities in North and South America, Asia Australia and Europe. There is also an internship integrated into the Bachelor degree programmes which students are able to do abroad.

Be part of the world-renowned WorldPop Group at the University of Southampton, a global top 100 university (QS World Rankings 2021). WorldPop is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution.  We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to work on the development and implementation of methods for improving small area modelled human population estimates. The successful candidate is expected to have strong quantitative skills and experience of working with large gridded geospatial datasets. They will focus on designing approaches to process and utilise such datasets in population modelling and integrate them into WorldPop’s workflows to construct high resolution national, regional and global demographic estimates. They will explore, test and validate novel statistical and AI methods, working with partners from governments and UN agencies to big tech and satellite imagery companies. These may include derived datasets such as building footprints, geo-embeddings, or datasets derived from mobile phones and social media. Work will also involve exploration of urban characteristics and dynamics. The post holder will be expected to work within a team of researchers and partner organizations to contribute to the development and implementation of methods and impactful applications of the results. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to and lead projects from across the WorldPop portfolio. They will also lead and contribute to the preparation of high-quality publications and will also be supported to present outputs to stakeholders and at national and international conferences. Further, the individual will contribute to external engagement across the WorldPop group, providing opportunities to work with UN agencies, governments and researchers around the world. The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for a fixed term period of 2 years, starting asap or as agreed. The Faculty of Social Sciences is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the “Sex Differences in Immunity (SEXDIM)” project. The project aims to provide insight into how changing fertility patterns and environmental factors relate to immunity in populations, particularly in women’s health. The principal investigator (PI) of the project is Dr Elina Einiö.  This position is part of the interdisciplinary consortium at the University of Helsinki, Sex Differences in Immunity, led by Dr Piret Avila, which brings together researchers across demography, statistics, evolutionary biology, immunology, and genomics to bridge evolutionary and mechanistic explanations of sex differences in immunity. The successful applicant should contribute to one or more of the research disciplines of the project, preferably demography or health sciences. The project is associated with the Helsinki Institute for Demography and Population Health and the Max Planck – University of Helsinki Center on Social Inequalities in Population Health.  The main task of the appointed researcher is - jointly with the research team - to design and conduct quantitative research, mostly on longitudinal register-based data on autoimmune diseases. Additionally, the researcher is expected to actively contribute to teaching in the master’s program in social sciences, or thesis supervision and other research activities of the Institute. QUALIFICATIONS The appointee to the position must hold a doctoral degree in demography, sociology, health sciences, data sciences, statistics, economics, or other relevant field, have strong quantitative methods skills and an excellent command of written English. Demonstrated skills in either assessing lifetables, publishing in the field of public health, or using Nordic register-based data on medical care are a plus. The default assumption is that the degree requirement must be met by the beginning of employment.
