The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) is a private, non-profit research university focussed on technical and vocational studies. It has several campuses in New York State as well as programmes abroad.
In 1910 the institute’s predecessor, the New York Technical Institute, was licensed by New York State. NYIT opened in 1955. As is the case today, the institute aimed to educate its students for a variety of professions. NYIT was one of the first institutions to pioneer teaching through computers.
NYIT is a top-rated school in terms of returns on the cost of study, with high numbers of students going on to find well-paid jobs.
More than 90 educational programmes geared towards professional training are available at NYIT, including cross-disciplinary courses. All students follow a core curriculum of studies aimed at preparing students for the workplace.
There are three main NYIT campuses in New York. The largest of these is located in Old Westbury on Long Island. Old Westbury is home to NYIT’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. NYIT’s Manhattan campus is located near to Central Park and Columbus Circle. Programmes from all of NYIT’s major academic divisions are on offer in Manhattan, as well as many of its student organisations. The third campus is located in Central Islip, Long Island, where the institute’s Vocational Independence programme takes place.
NYIT’s main overseas locations are with partner universities in China, the United Arab Emirates and Canada.
