Stranmillis University College

Stranmillis University College is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was established in 1922 to provide courses for primary school teachers. In 1939, the college campus was used as a hospital by the military, so classes were relocated until 1944. In 1969, Stranmillis began a partnership with fellow Queen’s University College, St Mary’s. The university continues the same mission as it began with in 1922 - to transform the lives of children and young people through high-quality teaching, scholarship and research.

The University College offers undergraduate, postgraduate, lifelong learning and professional development level courses to its students. Undergraduate courses include: early-childhood studies, post-primary, and health, physical activity and sport. Lifelong learning courses such as art, health and fitness, languages, creative writing and parenting are offered to those in the community to develop existing skills or learn new ones. Online and in-person professional development courses are offered, which include leadership, and SEN literacy and testing courses.

At Stranmillis, students are given extensive support to assist them with employment after graduation and the skills to assist this. A third of students at Stranmillis take advantage of the opportunities to study abroad at one of the 30 partner institutions across the US, Europe and Asia.

The Degree Enhancement Programme provides students with optional short courses and volunteering opportunities to help students stand out from the crowd.

The campus itself is set in 18 hectares of woodland.The college has been awarded EcoCampus status for its conservation and green efforts. There are many cafés, bars, a gym, sports hall and a dance studio for students to enjoy.
