Thapar Institute’s innovative BE programs have been specially designed for all aspiring minds who wish to bring about an exceptional difference in the world. The Institute offers BE / B. Tech Under Graduate programme in 15 disciplines and Post Graduate programmes leading to M.E. / M. Tech. degree, M.A. (Psychology), MCA, M.Sc. degrees.

Thapar School of Liberal Arts & Sciences has been conceived in collaboration with the University of Groningen, Netherlands. This unique school offers comprehensive programs that will prepare students for deeper learning, unique cross-sectoral specializations, independent thinking, problem solving, and, for ‘everything’ envisaged with jobs of tomorrow.

LM Thapar School of Management offers a two-year full-time program with ten specializations. The program goal is to develop globally sensitive, scholarly practitioners with a social entrepreneurial mind-set.

Research is at the apex of the TIET’s long-term strategic plan. The institution spends a substantial amount of its budget on research. This creates numerous opportunities for students and provides faculty an enriching environment.

TIET has also identified key cross functional cutting research themes for setting up multiple Centres of Excellence (COEs).

Thapar Institute has numerous international arrangements for summer schools, semester exchange and study abroad opportunities. Collaborations and partnerships with top ranked global universities like Trinity College Dublin, University of Leeds, Virginia Tech, University of Toledo, University of Groningen, University of Queensland University of New South Wales and Tel-Aviv University, are creating a pathway for higher education and research for Thapar students.

In this context, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) too is at the forefront of embracing the new world order and delivering quality education to students from India and abroad.

Research Centres of Excellence led by globally recognized academics

Research is at the apex of the TIET’s long-term strategic plan, which is to be a leading research focused and teaching intensive institute in India, a central theme of the institution’s mission. Research and innovation will facilitate academic collaborations, industrial interactions and knowledge transfer; and provide support to academics on research funding streams, preparing bid proposals and negotiating research contracts. The institution spends a substantial amount of its budget on research activities. This creates numerous opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students and provides faculty an enriching environment. Going forward, the institution foresees significant growth in research activities across disciplines for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. In addition to the department specific research, TIET has also identified key cross functional cutting research themes for setting up multiple Centres of Excellence (COEs).

Research work 

TIET has seven Engineering Departments and seven Schools covering basic sciences and humanities studies including management. Faculty of each of these departments and schools are actively engaged in research of their specializations, and publish extensively in top journals/conferences. Thapar faculty have also attracted good number of sponsored research projects from several funding agencies.   There are approximately 800 PhD Research scholars, and 90-100 PhD Degrees are awarded each year.  

Institute has performed exceedingly well in terms of journal publications, which stand at 6302 papers (Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index) published in Web of Science (WOS) with 93 H-Index and 81357 Citations. Similarly, TIET has 9160 papers indexed in the SCOPUS database.

Infrastructure

The institute provides a wide variety of educational programs, learning experiences, instructional approaches and academic support strategies that are intended to address the distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations or cultural backgrounds of individual students.

A sprawling 250 acres’ campus, where the individual gets many opportunities to bond and connect with peers through various clubs and communities, extra-curricular activities and cultural fests. The campus offers many outlets of creative independence for students to pursue their interests and hobbies, while also providing opportunities to participate in community services.

Facilities

TIET has 14 hostels (9 for boys & 5 for girls) with state-of-the-art facilities. The total hostel accommodation for boys is over 4800 and for girls, about 1800. The hostels are provided with all facilities including water coolers fitted with water purifiers, common TV room, common reading room, common gym, laundry facility etc. Excellent dining and night canteen facilities are available in all hostels.

Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY With offers of BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, BSc (Hons) in Analytical and Testing Sciences, MSc in Analytical Chemistry, MPhil (by research), and PhD degrees, the Department presently has around 150 undergraduate students, 70 taught postgraduate students and 90 research students and project staff. The Department places a strong emphasis on both quality education and scholarly research/services, and has reached a significant milestone where its educational programmes are not only innovative but also accessible, and its major areas of research strength are well recognised and supported.  It is now inviting applications for the position of: Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (25260426) Responsibilities: The appointee will be expected to conduct independent, high-quality research, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and demonstrate research achievements of originality and depth. The ideal candidate will have the potential to become a leading international scholar and contribute to impactful research and innovative technological applications. The appointee will also supervise MPhil and PhD students, develop a vigorous research program at the forefront of basic and translational chemical / environmental engineering, and engage in broader scholarly activities such as organising academic conferences, symposia, and seminars. Requirements: Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemical Science or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, Biomedical Science or Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. They must have relevant postdoctoral research experience, an excellent track record of publications in high-impact peer-reviewed international journals (as first and/or senior author), and a strong history of securing external research funding through competitive grants. Expertise in chemical, biomedical, and/or environmental science and engineering including AI for chemistry is highly desirable, as it will complement the department’s existing strengths in related research and pedagogical areas. GUMC and MedStar Health, Inc. have a clinical partnership agreement under which MedStar Health owns, operates, and has financial responsibility for Georgetown University's clinical enterprise that includes a hospital, faculty practice group, and a network of community physician practices.Position Description and ResponsibilitiesClinical: The candidate will be involved in all teaching and attending services at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as these are core duties of all Infectious Diseases faculty at Georgetown University.Clinical care includes outpatient Infectious Diseases clinic, and inpatient Infectious Diseases (ID) including general ID, immunocompromised host and transplant ID.Research: The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical skills, and experience with the use of large clinical and observational data for research. The candidate will be involved with the Georgetown University HIV cohort studies, including the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study, and the STAR study of young women with and at risk for HIV. The candidate will be expected to develop a research portfolio, preferably with a focus on neurocognition, other common comorbidities seen in persons living with HIV, and their effects on long-term outcomes among people with and at risk for HIV.As a key member of the Georgetown MWCCS and STAR investigators, the individual will lead the hospitalization ascertainment component of these observational cohorts. A strong background in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and demonstrated experience with use of ICD-9/10 codes in translational research evidenced by publications in this field is needed. Georgetown University is a collaborating institution of the DC Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR); the candidate will be expected to become an active investigator within the DC CFAR, and support the mission of advancing HIV research within the District of Columbia.
