In far-western New South Wales lies an enormous 40,000 hectare property called Nanya Station. What was once productive farmland is now a sprawling ‘living laboratory’ where students and researchers study arid-zone ecology and conservation.

“We were showcasing senior women and their contributions, but also providing opportunities for early career researchers to work with these senior women and improve their careers by publishing in the area of ageing and public health,” Prof Browning says.

Professor Singarayer “Florry" Florentine has more than two decades of experience in restoration ecology and invasive species science. However, he didn’t realise how strongly connected they were until after finishing his PhD.

“The more callous you are, the less empathy you have, the lack of personal responsibility and guilt you have for your behaviour … the more likely you are to cyber abuse,” Assoc Prof March says.

After a few years working as a young doctor in Bangladesh, Masud Salehin knew he wanted to take a different approach to health care.

“We need to know what will happen in the next day, or hour, or five minutes, so we can maintain balance across the energy network,” Dr Shah says.

“Volunteers keep the project going,” she says. “They help me catch birds and collect survey data: they’re critical to our success.”

“We worked with a lot of institutions to build trust and develop standards so that data could be shared, and so people can use it to make better decisions.”

"Catherine was suffering stress from misadventure – she was in the wrong place, but there are many reasons why that may have happened. She did have quite high inflammatory markers and has benefited from a few days of rest and food, fluids and pain relief."
