At the third attempt, the Commonwealth Scholars Eleven wrested The Times Higher Cricket Cup from arch-rivals Rhodes Scholars. The key to victory may well have been the little help the Commonwealth team received from a passing Marshall Scholar and a strong bowling spell from the 16-year-old son of a senior official from the Association of Commonwealth Studies. In the first game that the Rhodes Scholars had lost in three years, they were left chasing a Commonwealth score of 190 and could only reach 181.
