Work starts this week on the construction of a £1.3 million extension to the department of sport and exercise science at Aberystwyth University. The project will add eight teaching and research laboratories to the ten housed in the existing facility, with work expected to be completed by summer 2010. David Lavallee, head of the department, said the project was aimed at giving students more practical experience. "Here, the focus is more on learning by working in laboratories, a feature we believe accounts for the very high student-satisfaction ratings we consistently achieve," he said.
