Students from poor backgrounds will be entitled to social security benefits whether or not they get a grant or bursary, the Government has announced. This will be welcomed by vice-chancellors such as Diana Green of Sheffield Hallam University, who raised concerns that grants and bursaries would be counted as income under previous rules.
