The University of Southern California will use digital satellite broadcasting to reach the entire contiguous United States with distance learning programmes which help professionals obtain masters degrees and doctorates. USC is using PanAmSat's SBS 5 satellite and will migrate to the company's Galaxy X satellite when it is launched in 1998. Galaxy X will reach Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean.
