Congratulations to David Latchman, who has been appointed master of Birkbeck College, University of London. Professor Latchman is currently dean of the Institute of Child Health and professor of human genetics at University College London. He will take up his new position in January 2003. He succeeds Tim O'Shea, who is leaving Birkbeck to become vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in October.
