Student mentoring programmes should be applauded for their work in Britain's schools, according to the education and employment secretary, David Blunkett.
Meeting a group of school children on a day trip to London as part of the University of Teesside's "Meteor" programme, he said he was "deeply impressed" by the outreach scheme.
