(Photograph) - Born to be wild: Jennifer Ward, a third-year zoology student at Glasgow University, studies a 100-year-old wildcat in the university's zoology museum before embarking on a year-long study which will attempt to reveal how many pure Scottish wildcats remain.
For many years, wildcats have been breeding with domestic cats living wild, producing hybrids, and Ms Ward will use new and traditional techniques during a work placement with the Royal Museum of Scotland to identify differences between the species. Her research is backed by the Highland Distilleries Company.
