Polish Christian Democrat MEP Jerzy Buzek has been awarded the Parliament Magazine MEP award for research and technology. When nominating Mr Buzek, the magazine stated he had been influential in developing clean coal technology, and has 'shown strong commitment to ensuring that the views of Europe's universities are heard'. Mr Buzek has also acted as rapporteur on the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
Accepting the award, the MEP said it showed that Poland is now firmly on the European research map. 'I hope this proves that the new Member States are reliable,' he said. 'It is a great sign that we are present in Europe and we feel much better for it.
