Napier University has won a £195,000 grant from the Scottish Executive to evaluate its Working for Families pilot projects.
These aim to help parents in deprived areas to overcome barriers to work due to their childcare commitments.
The projects also focus on helping parents who have difficulty finding work because of disability, drug and alcohol or mental-health problems.
