In our report about Leeds Metropolitan University's position on leave during its staff development festival (November 4), the words "in any but rare circumstances" were omitted from a sentence quoted from the vice-chancellor's e-mail. The full sentence should have read: "If there are any wholly exceptional requests for leave during the festival, please refer them to me, with your recommendation but without encouraging colleagues to think that permission will be granted in any but rare circumstances."
