(Photograph) - Court out: riot police guard the Malaysian High Court in Kuala Lumpur where reformist finance minister Anwar Ibrahim is being tried on corruption and sex charges. Two senior administrators at the Institute Technology Mara have been sacked and a student expelled for involvement in the Anwar democracy movement. They had earlier been detained with other administrators under the Internal Security Act. Intellectuals and professionals have come under government fire for either supporting Anwar and criticising the government, or simply keeping quiet and thereby not contributing to peace and stability. The groups were accused of not using their influence to advise against anti-government protest and using mosques as the centre of their gatherings.
