Alumnus to be proud of No 180 is that notorious unreconstructed leftist Derek Draper, whose modest assessment of his government connections and ability to influence them provided such entertainment in the Sunday papers.

Mr Draper's famous sense of discretion may or may not have been reinforced by his spell as an undergraduate economist at Manchester University.
