Edinburgh University will strengthen its position in informatics with a multimillion-pound private donation towards a computer research centre. The Wolfson Foundation has pledged £2 million towards a Wolfson Centre for Informatics and the life sciences. The chip developer, Wolfson Microelectronics, originally an Edinburgh University spin-off, has pledged £1 million towards research fellowships in informatics and microelectronics.
