Fight to halt cuts failing

A campaign against cuts in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Translation at the University of East Anglia looks set to fail. Despite pressure from staff and students - and comedian Eddie Izzard, who received an honorary UEA degree last year - the university's planning and resources committee has recommended that undergraduate modern-languages degrees, Scandinavian studies and linguistics courses be closed. Plans to close the drama school have been shelved, however. The university's senate is due to discuss the recommendations on June 23.
