The University of Hertfordshire has announced that Quintin McKellar will take up the post of vice-chancellor when Tim Wilson retires after seven years at the helm.
Professor McKellar is currently principal of the Hertfordshire-based Royal Veterinary College, a position he has held for the past six years.
Prior to this, he was the director of the Moredun Research Institute and professor of veterinary pharmacology at the University of Glasgow.
Professor McKellar is also an accomplished rower who represented Scotland in the 1986 Commonwealth Games.
Jo Connell, chair of the university’s board of governors, said he would be “an excellent and inspiring vice-chancellor who will build on the university’s reputation as innovative and enterprising and will ensure that it continues to be seen as an exemplar in the sector”.
Professor McKellar will take up the vice-chancellor post in January 2011.
