Independent school students are more likely to be offered a place at the University of Oxford

* Two academics from the University of Oxford have found that independent school students are 20 per cent more likely to be offered a place at the university than state school students. They made the claim after analysing what happened to the 6,000 pupils who applied to the university with three grade As at A-level between 1994 and 1997.
