Paisley names new prinicipal
Paisley University has appointed John Macklin, currently pro vice-chancellor at Leeds University, principal from October. He will succeed Richard Shaw, who has been principal for 14 years.

Queen's, Belfast, to honour Clinton
Queen’s University, Belfast, will next month confer an honorary degree on Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, for services to peace in Northern Ireland.

Birmingham works to seal merger
Birmingham University is negotiating to complete a merger with the former Westhill College of Higher Education. The two institutions had already entered a strategic alliance. College trustees have now offered to sell the campus, thereby releasing assets over which they only shared control.
