The European Platform of Women Scientists - EPWS is a newly established organisation that will empower women scientists to participate in the research policy debate and to enhance their professional and career advancement. Acting as a structural link between women scientists and policy makers, it will support the work of existing national, regional and international networks of women scientists in the natural and social sciences, in engineering and technology, the humanities, the arts and medical science. It will promote networking among women scientists, particularly in Central Eastern Europe and the private sector.
EPWS is supported by the 6th Framework Programme and started its work in Brussels in February 2006. The Platform will build an inclusive structure bringing together networks of women scientists as well as networks engaged in promoting women scientists of all disciplines. Particular attention will be given to the promotion of networking among women scientists in Central Eastern Europe and the private sector. Promoting the understanding and the inclusion of the gender issue in science and increasing the relevance of certain aspects of gender issues related aspects in general and research policy-making at national and EU levels are important goals of the Platform. The Platform will provide a structural link between women scientists and policy makers by coordinating EU value-added support activities for women scientists and enhancing awareness of the role women scientists can play in the policy debate.
The event will provide the opportunity to obtain initial information on the mandate and the work of the new platform. The EPWS board will be available for interviews.
