Six gang members who kidnapped the former rector of the University of Particular, Inca Garcilaso de La Vega, at gunpoint and held him for a ransom of 2 million soles (£397,000) in December 1998 have each been given a 20-year prison sentence. A former administrative employee of the university was found guilty of masterminding the operation.
