A university lecturer could see his design take centre stage in Trafalgar Square. The creation - an illuminated peace sign powered by the sun and wind - by Patrick Brill, a lecturer at London Metropolitan University's Sir John Cass department of art, media and design, is one of six proposals that could be commissioned for the square's fourth plinth. He is competing with one of his department's most famous alumni, Tracey Emin, who has proposed a piece called Something for the Future, a sculpture of a small group of meerkats symbolising unity and safety.
