Caught in the act this week is the Royal Society, engaged in a hunt for examples of misreported research. Bureaucrat Bob Ward is pleading for "four or five" examples for Monday's You and Yours programme on Radio 4.
British science journalists were quick to notice his bid. One suggested that a trawl for researchers making overblown claims that journalists are forced to discount would have produced a far larger postbag.
