Attempts to liven up graduation ceremonies by anointing famous people as honorary fellows can be a risky affair. After flagging up actor Bill Nighy as one of its honorands, Liverpool John Moores University had to tell the press that "due to unforeseen circumstances" Nighy was unable this week to collect his fellowship. Maybe he has yet to find his land legs after a stint playing Davy Jones in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film.
