* Author, dramatist, musician and nurse Jonathan Falla has been appointed Royal Literary Fund writing fellow at Dundee University.

* Michael Devereux , research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the Institute for Fiscal Studies, Warwick University, has been appointed professor of business taxation at the Centre for Business Taxation at Oxford University's Said Business School.

* Raphael Rouquier , professor of representation theory at Leeds University, has been appointed Waynflete professor of pure mathematics at Oxford University and fellow of Magdalen College.

* Omar Jacinto Escalona , head of the bio-engineering research and development group at the Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas, has been appointed professor of bio-engineering at Ulster University.
