Oxford Brookes University has become the first higher education institution to win a Gold EcoCampus award in recognition of its approach to sustainability. Oxford Brookes won the award for implementing an environmental management system (EMS) at its Wheatley Campus. It is one of the first universities to take part in the EcoCampus Programme, a national pilot scheme. The EMS allows the university to manage its environmental impact in areas such as waste production, energy use and travel, and helps to identify areas for improvement.
