Hundreds of academics have signed a petition urging the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology to abandon its inquiry into Mona Baker's actions. The petition, initiated by the Council for Academic Freedom and Academic Standards, said Professor Baker's dismissal of Israelis from the boards of her journals was neither a breach of academic freedom nor racially motivated. It said the inquiry was "an assault on academic freedom and the right to legitimate political activity".
