Shaanxi Province, an education centre for science and technology in northeast China, is speeding up training for experts in local government, medicine, science and technology, water conservation, farming and town enterprises.
Many university departments and some colleges are to become postgraduate professional training schools to meet demand for experts given the economic advances.
Liu Bingqi, provincial education commissar, said that for the ninth five-year plan up to 2000, Shaanxi plans to produce 350,000 graduates and 15,000 postgraduates from 43 universities and colleges.
