A new name demands a new logo and Southampton Solent University, formerly Southampton Institute, has taken a particularly bold line - a series of bold lines, in fact, that bear a distinct resemblance to student doodlings during lectures. But far from being an absent-minded scribble, the logo is a white "spark" on a red background denoting the "energy and ambition" of the institution. "We've been deliberately bold, both in the colours chosen and the imagery adopted," said deputy vice-chancellor Van Gore.
