Teacher training in universities must continue to come under schools' inspectorate Ofsted, its chief Chris Woodhead said this week at the launch of his annual report. Mr Woodhead said that there were still weaknesses in teacher training.
His remarks follow calls for the Quality Assurance Agency to take the Ofsted university role.
Giving evidence to a Commons select committee later in the week, Mr Woodhead disagreed that Ofsted was visiting universities too frequently and said it was up to the government to regulate timing for teacher training inspection.
