A coastal university is to start exploring the deep oceans after taking on a key role in a new national research organisation. The University of Southampton will be a partner in the National Oceanography Centre alongside the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory in Liverpool. It will contribute to research on sea-level change, the oceans' role in climate change and the future of the Arctic Ocean. Southampton hopes to extend its expertise in marine research and develop its teaching in ocean and earth science through the collaboration.
