UK is top European spender on books, music and videos
Britons are the biggest spenders on books, music, videos and DVDs in Europe, according to new research. The UK boasts the highest rates of these items at £117.74 each, compared to £101.10 in Germany and £71.03 in France, according to a report by Mintel.
Nearly a million IVF embryos in Britain since 1990
Nearly 1 million human embryos have been created through in vitro fertilisation treatment since the Human Fertilisation Act was passed in 1990, the House of Commons heard yesterday. Junior health minister Lord Hunt of Kings Heath confirmed the figure as 925,747 embryos with 423,153 being transferred for implantation.
