TUC promotes learning reps in the workplace
Thousands of union learning reps have been recruited to promote new learning rights that come into force this week, the Trades Union Congress said today. The reps will be able to take paid time-off to carry out their learning duties. Ivan Lewis, the minister for adult skills, said: "Unions have a vital role to play in promoting the development of learning and skills in the workplace."

Heart disease link with birth weight investigated
Possible links between low birth weight and heart disease are to be investigated by researchers, it was announced today. An Edinburgh University-based team has won funding from the British Heart Foundation to study whether women who were small at birth risk developing heart disease in later life.
