Vice-chancellors and lecturers' leaders joined forces this week to lobby the government for more money. In a group meeting, three employers' bodies and five trade unions told education secretary David Blunkett that the agreement reached over the Bett report into pay and conditions would be shattered without resources to fund his recommendations.
