Weightlifting postgraduate Peter Stewart was yesterday hoping to pick up a medal at the Commonwealth Games. Mr Stewart, 23, took up weightlifting only four years ago while a biochemistry student at Heriot-Watt University. He has now returned home to Northern Ireland to take a PhD at Queen's University, Belfast, where he is based in the haematology labs of Belfast City Hospital. Mr Stewart said: "As a relative newcomer I feel I've done well to get to the games. Although the prospects of winning a medal are slim, I hope to obtain points for the Northern Ireland team."
